Singer-Songwriter Ellis Paul will be the featured artist during the Folk Music Society of Huntington’s monthly First Saturday Concerts series on June 3. The 8:30 p.m. concert at the Congregational Church of Huntington (30 Washington Drive, off Route 25A, Centerport) is preceded by an open mic at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, priced at $25 ($20 for FMSH members), may be purchased in advance online at www.fmsh.org, using a credit card, or at the door (cash and checks only). For more information, visit the website or call (631) 425-2925.

Since his emergence on the Boston music scene in 1990, Ellis Paul has earned accolades, awards, and a large fan base in recognition of his well-crafted songs, his high-energy stage presence, and his distinctive voice. As Kristian Bush, of the duo Sugarland, has said: “Ellis has a voice that is so powerful you know who it is the second he comes through your radio.”

Now celebrating 25 years on the road, Ellis Paul has played some 5,000 shows – gracing stages at the Newport Folk Festival, Carnegie Hall, and clubs and coffeehouses the world-over. A prolific songwriter, he’s penned more than 500 songs. “His songs are literate, provocative and urbanely romantic.” (Scott Alarik, The Boston Globe). He’s recorded and released 20 albums, while his music has also been featured in a number of Hollywood film soundtracks – including several by the Farrelly Brothers – as well as commercials, documentaries and TV shows.

“Despite his success and sense of history, Mr. Paul remains an artist with his eye on the future and an interest in discovering the transformative potential in his music.” – The New York Times

Now in its 49th year, the Folk Music Society of Huntington presents two monthly concert series, a monthly folk jam, and an annual folk festival each summer in conjunction with the Huntington Arts Council. The Hard Luck Café series, presented in partnership with Huntington’s Cinema Arts Centre, concludes its season in the Cinema’s Sky Room on Thursday, June 15, with a double-bill featuring The Levins and Christine Sweeney. The 12th Huntington Folk Festival is set for Saturday, July 29, at Heckscher Park. Extending from 12 noon -10:30 p.m. (with a dinner break from 6-8 p.m.), the free event will feature unplugged showcases and song swaps in the afternoon near tents hosted by AcousticMusicScene.com and Radio Nowhere Internet Radio, and an evening concert on the park’s Chapin Rainbow Stage with Sarah Lee Guthrie and The Mammals (featuring Mike & Ruthy), preceded by NERFA Presents Young Folk: Alice Howe & Mike Tedesco.
