The Centerport Fire Department recently recognized Ex-Chief Ken Klerk for his 70 years of dedicated service as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. Klerk joined the department in 1948, advanced through the officer’s ranks and served as Chief of the Department from 1968-1969. He was also a Fire Commissioner from 1970-1990, Captain of the Fire Police, Centerport Rescue Squad member for over 25 years and one of the first EMT’s in Suffolk County. Klerk received awards from the Town of Huntington Fire Chiefs Council, Suffolk County Fire Chiefs Council, NYS Association of Fire Chiefs, Firemen’s Association of the State of NY (FASNY), Governor Andrew Cuomo and Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. Klerk was also presented with an anniversary cake by the Chiefs that was shared with the membership.
