In a hyper-partisan era when journalists are ridiculed daily, the role of newsroom manager has become ever more critical to maintaining staff morale and remaining focused on journalism’s core mission — to tell the Truth, without fear or favor.
Join the Press Club of Long Island at Newsday on the evening of Nov. 29 for a high-powered panel discussion with three of the Island’s journalism thought leaders to get their take on why newsroom managers are vital to the reporting process.
The talk will be good for journalists at all levels, from students and cub reporters to long-time editors and news directors. Panelists will include:
- Debbie Henley, executive editor and vice president of Newsday.
- Mark Lukasiewicz, dean of Hofstra University’s Herbert School of Communication and a former NBC News executive.
- Joe Shaw, executive editor of the Press News Group, which includes the award-winning Southampton Press.
PCLI President Scott Brinton, executive editor of Herald Community Newspapers and a Hofstra adjunct professor, will moderate.
Where: Newsday Cafeteria, 235 Pinelawn Road, Melville.
When: Thursday, Nov. 29, 7 p.m.
Pizza will be served.
