Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash in Centerport

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist in Centerport the evening of Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 6:15 p.m..

Robert Gaydes was riding a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Centershore Road, near East Main Street, when he apparently crossed over the divider and collided with a southbound 2003 Ford pickup truck at 6:15 p.m.

Gaydes, 27, of Huntington Station, was airlifted by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, George Pryor, 16, of Centerport, was not injured.

The Centerport Fire Department responded to the motor vehicle accident with two engines, two ambulances, heavy rescue truck, paramedic unit and fire police. Approximately 25 firefighters and emergency medical personnel were on the scene and under the direction of Assistant Chiefs Andrew Heglund, Kyle McLaughlin and Deputy Chief Medical Dr. Jack Geffken. Firefighters also secured the landing zone for the Suffolk Police Medivac helicopter at the nearby Chalet Motor Inn.

The vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
