The Folk Music Society of Huntington’s First Saturday Concerts presents A History of American Music in Three Chords and Five Notes with Robert Jones and Matt Watroba on Nov. 2. 2019. The 8:30 p.m. concert at the Congregational Church of Huntington (30 Washington Drive, off Route 25A, Centerport) is preceded by an open mic at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, priced at $25 ($20 for FMSH members) may be purchased online at www.fmsh.org using a credit card or at the door (cash and checks only). Robert Jones and Matt Watroba have been musical partners since first meeting more than 20 years ago. Their relationship started when they hosted back-to-back radio shows on WDET-FM in Detroit, Michigan. Later on, they started performing together and, in doing so, discovered a friendship based on mutual respect and a love for traditional American music.
For Matt and Robert, American roots music (folk, blues, spirituals, work songs, chants, etc.) is music that matters. This is the music that America and the world have in common. It is music that reflects history, social change, migration, hopes and dreams. It is music that is rich and diverse, direct and powerful.

Founded in the late 1960s, the Folk Music Society of Huntington is a nonprofit organization that presents two monthly concert series, a monthly folk jam, and an annual folk festival in conjunction with the Huntington Arts Council. The next Hard Luck Café series’ concert is se for Thursday, Nov. 21 and will feature 2019 Kerrville New Folk Winners Lisa Bastoni and D.B. Rielly, preceded by an open mic. FMSH hosts a Phil Ochs Song Night on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Congregational Church of Huntington in Centerport.
